Picture behind the story #28 Do YOU have a favourite watering hole?

Our Favourite Wine Bar

I guess we all have a favourite pub, bar, wine bar, watering hole? My favourite pub is in the village of Broughton in Cumbria, The Manor Arms. My favourite wine bar however is in Beaune in Burgundy, France. Situated right in the middle of Place Carnot their wine list is extensive, all local so Meursault, Puligny Montrachet, St Aubin, Montagny amongst the whites. Then Pommard, Volnay, Beaune, Gevrey Chambertin, Vosne Romanee, Nuits St George amongst the reds. No hot food, but the best platters of charcuterie or fromages in the town. The photos tell the story:

    • Thank you, we can’t keep out of the flipping place, we were in Beaune last week and sat in there most days, a charcuterie lunch or an early evening glass of wine. The funny thing is my wife is teetotal but she loves the place too!

      • It really does look perfect. Does your blog have any posts about your wife’s adventures/experience being teetotal? Would love to read.

        • A good question but it’s not like that. One of my well worn expressions is “it’s not about the wine” and it isn’t! Our travels to wine regions take in the culture, history, geography, geology, archeology, people …. We visit winemakers, vineyards, museums, art galleries, restaurants, wine bars. We meet many people and talk about the whole culture and philosophy of wine. Most of our posts are about those things, rarely just tasting notes which we hate.
